Inside Fyro’s Latest Sample Box: Tech Books, Rain Covers, New Colors & Fabrics

What’s Inside Fyro’s Latest Sample Box?

A new box has arrived from BagMe, Fyro’s product-development and quality-control team in Vietnam. Inside are near-final Tech Books, lightweight backpack rain covers, blue fabric lab dips, and Citta samples in experimental colors and materials.

Here is what each sample reveals, how close it is to production, and what Fyro still needs to test.

Fyro Tech Books Are Nearing the Golden-Sample Stage

Fyro has spent roughly eight months developing its Tech Books in public, progressing from drawings and paper mock-ups to fabric prototypes and these near-final samples.

From Fabric Mock-Up to Golden Sample

Each version improves the shape, construction, materials, and details until it becomes the golden sample—the definitive reference a factory uses for full production. These Tech Books were made in the sample room at TheSANG factory in Ho Chi Minh City.

A Book-Style Organizer with Real Volume

The idea began as a conventional tech pouch before evolving into a more distinctive book-style organizer with useful three-dimensional volume on one side. It is planned in Fyro’s signature 330D polycarbonate-coated Kodra nylon, with Sage and Iron versions designed to match the Citta, Levo, and T22.

What Happens Before Production?

The previous sample was already close to perfect and has been used as an everyday-carry tech pouch. After a few small changes, the new version will be tested for several days. If it performs as intended, Fyro can approve it and place a factory order with a current lead time of about six months.

A separate feature-by-feature and pocket-by-pocket video is planned after approval. Subscribe to Fyro’s YouTube channel and join the Fyro Insider newsletter to follow that next stage.

Lightweight Rain Covers in Three Proper Sizes

Fyro’s rain covers have taken time to refine because fit, attachment, and fabric all had to work together. Instead of settling for a bulky generic cover, the team sourced an ultralight nylon that can protect a bag without adding unnecessary weight.

Why One Size Does Not Fit Every Fyro Backpack

Every size adds another SKU and minimum order quantity, but one universal cover would not properly fit backpacks ranging from 18 to 36 liters. Fyro is therefore developing three purpose-built sizes:

  • Small
  • Medium
  • Large

A Two-Point Attachment System

The latest cover uses two connections to stay secure:

  • A pull cord cinches the cover around the backpack’s circumference.
  • A second strap crosses the back of the bag over its luggage pass-through holder.

Together, they are designed to stop the cover from blowing off even in the wind and rain of a Hong Kong summer typhoon.

Field Testing and Expected Availability

Hong Kong’s rainy summer gives Fyro an ideal chance to test the covers in real conditions. If these become the approved golden samples, the team hopes to include them in its next product order for availability around February. That date remains dependent on testing, and Fyro is still inviting suggestions for any missing features.

From Blue Lab Dips to a Finished Citta

The package also included a trims card with lab dips—small samples used to evaluate new fabric colors. BagMe is coordinating with fabric supplier Novi after Fyro received repeated requests for blue bags.

Blue Horizon vs. High Tide

  • Blue Horizon: a dark shade approaching midnight blue.
  • High Tide: a tone closer to indigo.

Blue is intended to join black and green as a primary Fyro color. Because every product, size, and color adds inventory complexity for a young company, it may begin as a limited run or temporarily replace green.

Why a Good Swatch Is Not Enough

After choosing a shade, Fyro must order around 50 yards of sample fabric—roughly the minimum Novi or another supplier needs for a consistent dye run. That material can then become a sling, Tech Book, or full-size backpack. This matters because a color that looks excellent on a tiny lab dip can fail when applied across an entire bag.

The Dark Blue Citta Sample

A later Citta sample used an earlier blue rather than either new lab dip, and the result may already be strong enough to move forward. The understated, dark denim-like exterior avoids bright or neon territory and pairs especially well with Fyro’s copper interior.

The polycarbonate-coated Kodra preserves its distinctive texture and subtle sheen in blue. Possible names include Cobalt, Lapis, Indigo, and Midnight, and Fyro is inviting the community to suggest the final name.

Testing Cordura 500D Wax Nylon

The biggest material experiment is a Cordura 500D wax nylon. Aaron first spotted the unusual fabric at the BagMe office about five months ago, and the team has since tested it in both backpack and sling form. It is not confirmed for production, but it offers wax-canvas character in a thinner, lighter nylon.

Signature Kodra vs. Wax Nylon

On smaller screens, swipe across to compare both fabrics.

How the two fabrics change the feel of a Fyro bag
Feature Signature Kodra Wax Nylon
Material 330D Kodra nylon with a polycarbonate coating 500D Cordura wax nylon
Feel Lightweight and structured, with coating on the front and back Soft, flexible, and more malleable
Appearance Distinct texture, subtle sheen, and excellent color Warm heritage look with a copper-like tone and natural patina
Character over time Maintains a crisp, structured form Develops character without quickly looking beaten up
Current outlook Fyro’s established signature material Sling likely; backpack still being tested

Wax nylon gives the Citta a softer, lived-in feel, showing how completely a new shell material can change the same design. Fyro also sees value in exploring distinctive options beyond widely used materials such as X-Pac. A wax-nylon sling is close to settled, while a backpack requires more testing because of the reduced structure.

What the Fyro Community Can Help Decide

Fyro is asking the community four questions before the next production decisions:

  • Is wax nylon the right material for Fyro?
  • Does the rain cover need another feature?
  • Should the Tech Book open for pre-orders in a few months?
  • What should the new dark blue color be called?

New Products, Colors, and Materials Are Coming

Community support has made this continued experimentation possible. Strong Citta reviews and steady daily pre-orders are helping Fyro develop new products, expand its color palette, and test unusual materials.
